Dust Bunnies, your out of here

so can you tell what I am doing today.  After spending the weekend running around on Making a home singSaturday  and Sunday, just being lazy, I didn’t do much in my cleaningtools house.  So woke up after a good nights sleep raring to go. Today is going to be filled with me playing Suzy Homemaker.  This morning I have been cleaning my kitchen, you know the one, where you have to clean out the dreaded fridge.  Got that done, and happy to report, it wasn’t all that bad.  Got my dishwasher unloaded and reloaded, and all my cabinets and counters washed down.  The floor got a good sweeping and mopping too.  Woo Hoo! B

After spending time in the kitchen I made my way to the family room and did a good straightening up.  Wasn’t all that bad….because I like to pick up at night before I go to bed, so had done that last night.  Anyhow, did the floors in there too…a really good sweep and mopping.

So I’m on a roll now, I still need to do some dusting in the dining and living rooms, and the floors, and then on up to the bedrooms.  But that shouldn’t take to long.

todolist1 My goals for today are to make some list for the remainder of the week, as well as a shopping list for my errand day.  And hoping to get in a little project, I have been putting off some painting, so hoping that I get around to that today.

With all this talk around blogland about Fall, I have been in the mood pieto bake a pie, maybe today will be that day too.

I am participating in “Making Your Home Sing Monday”. I hope you will join us.

Weekly Roundup-August 27

canisters

I LOVE LABELS!!!!  It’s that organizational part of me. So if you love them the way I do, then you take a look at these.

I don’t know about you but I really love these canisters.  When I saw them, my mind started thinking about all the KEWL things that I could label.  Sarah@ ThriftyDecorChick gives a little tutorial on how to do these.

Some women are so clever and thrifty and I love that.   I love anything that I can repurpose and give new life to for next to nothing.  So does my hubby!

That leads to me why I really like this next project that Melissa @  320 Sycamore did.  fake bookshelves

When you are on a budget and you have a certain look in mind, nothing else will do.  Take a look at how she painted these laminate cheap bookshelves to make her family room very up to date.

Now, did you know that grey is the new neutral color in home decorating.  Well I didn’t so I’m just sayin….anyhow now we both know.  Take a look at Sara’s kitchen @ August Fields.  I love grey kitchenthe grey…and thinking this is very doable.   Ya’ll I’m in love with that island, and those open cabinets.  You really should jump over and view the whole kitchen it is simply beautiful. The opposite view of the island.  (below)

grey island

Just in case you missed this  in the last week or so, I have had this bookmarked to share so  going to go ahead and do it now.  It’s got two main ingredients in it that I love, organization  and remodeling (although it really isn’t a

pantry ps2

remodel)  Take a look at this pantry.  I know we all love pantries, but wait until you see this transformation @ House of Smiths.  There are those LABELS again.  Lovin it,lovin it!

Make sure you stop in and see how she pulled it altogether.

Okay now I want to end  this with a fun cute little project that I just fell in love with, it bday-wreath-1would  be easy, and fairly quick to do…it is a birthday wreath.   What else would you do with 144 balloons?   Missy gives a great little tutorial @ How Does She

Well ladies, I hope you found some fun things here today?  What was your favorite?

Need to scoot, today is going to be a busy day in the house, need to get it cleaned.  Tomorrow in the AM, hubby and I will be driving up to South Williamsport PA to watch the Little League World Series.  Got to go root for the Pearland Texas team.  Go Texas.

Hope you all have a very blessed weekend.

Some linky party love

Simple Pleasures and Thankful Thursday are today…seems like I was just writing my post for last week and here we are another week down the road.  I’m a bit late getting this up this morning, I have been taking care of some other computer business…  (time got away from me).

simple pleasureFirst one up is Simple Pleasures@ A Collection of this and that with our hostess Dayle.

magazines_tabbed Ya’ll may think my simple pleasure is silly this morning….but it is magazines…. I love them, and believe me if you look around my house, you will know it too.  Let’s see, with trying to declutter I have thrown away 2 huge moving boxes full of magazines I have saved since the late 80’s.  Yep, you heard me right.  Well it is hard to part with my Country Living and Southern Living.  But I did, and hubby was relieved. But I digress…the reason they are a simple pleasure for me is because it is a cheap way for me to escape and daydream, as well as gather useful information to help make my home run more smoothly.  Tips and tricks that others have tried.  I love trying new things to see if they work for me.

Do your magazines look like this, mine do.  All tabbed up.  There is so much clever advice and tips in them and I can’t retain it all, so I tab them for future use.  However, I don’t do so well in keeping them all in one place, so when I move, I am making it a point to do this with them. Granted it might take a whole room to organize them all, but  I’m just sayin……

Now onto Thankful Thursday hosted by Laurie @ Women taking a stand.

emo_flowers1_thankfulThursday

Since we are on the topic of books (I mean magazines are books, right?)  I am thankful for this book. Bible front view

My bible!  It is the holy inspired word of God.

It  is the basis for the way I live my life, or at least try to.  It gives me in the instructions on how to live.

I am thankful for the opportunity to study my bible without fear of persecution . I am also thankful that I can start my day off with quiet time with my Lord.  God gives us so much in HIS word. For that I am thankful too.

Jesus loves me! This I know,
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong;
They are weak, but He is strong.
Chorus:
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.
Jesus loves me! This I know,
As He loved so long ago,
Taking children on His knee,
Saying, “Let them come to Me.”
Chorus
Jesus loves me when I'm good,
When I do the things I should,
Jesus loves me when I'm bad,
Though it makes Him very sad.
Chorus
Jesus loves me still today,
Walking with me on my way,
Wanting as a friend to give
Light and love to all who live.
Chorus
Jesus loves me! He who died
Heaven’s gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin,
Let His little child come in.
Chorus
Jesus loves me! Loves me still
Tho' I'm very weak and ill;
That I might from sin be free
Bled and died upon the tree.
Chorus
Jesus loves me! He will stay
Close beside me all the way;
Thou hast bled and died for me,
I will henceforth live for Thee.

HomeKeepers Journal-August 24

I decided to participate in a meme called  “A HomeKeeper’s Journal” Please visit Sylvia at Christian HomeKeeper Network, we are discussing Fall today.  Fall is my favorite season of the year and one that I can’t wait to get here, every single year.

homekeepers-journal1

Autumn in my kitchen means ……. lots of baking both pies and breads, and  making soups.  I love making soups for those cool nights, they just say warmth.Lots of hot apple cider.  Also I will be planning our holiday get togethers and the menus.

Autumn in my home brings …….out all the fall decorations. It brings in the more subdue colors with the warm golds, browns, and reds. It brings out all the blankets for snuggling under while lounging around, whether reading or watching tv.

I bring Autumn indoors by ……..bringing nature indoors, branches, pinecones, leaves, and nuts are always displayed around the house.

A few favorite Autumn activities for my family are …….going to the harvest festivals, going to watch them make homemade apple butter over the open fire, visiting the local pumpkin patch to get our pumpkins and gourds for the season.

Two favorite Autumn recipes are …….my pumpkin cake, so moist and delicious, Deep Dish apple pie with chedder cheese slices on the side.

This Autumn I would like to ………entertain more, and share the many blessings that I have been given.  Show hospitality with a gift of grace, and maybe have a little treat for our guest to take home as a wonderful reminder of our time shared.

Making Your Home Sing Monday-August 23

Making a home sing Making Your Home Sing Monday is a linkie party designed for ladies to share what they will put into action for their home today and this week to make them run smoothly and to "sing" .  Although my plans for today and this week center around me getting things in my head organized and sorted into some kind of schedule.

Today I plan on catching up from my weekend with some light housework and making some list for the week. This weekend my hubby and I spent most of it just being out and about and didn’t get alot of chores done.   I am not the most organized person but I love organization. And nothing makes me feel so giddy as seeing organized spaces.  Also, I am going to spend some more time working on my blogging journal. For those that don’t know what that is, it is a place to keep thoughts of future post and inspiration for the post.  How do you keep track of future post?  Or do you?

I also have a few things that I am going to tackle to teach myself this week.  I have always been fascinated by digital scrapbooking so I am going to tackle this, and learn how to do it. I really don’t know where to start, so have some research to do.  Any tips from you fine friends.

Also, I need to spend some time updating my Christmas blog, as the background I was using is no longer on my site. So need to do some updating to get that site ready to go. I have been working on some post for that site, but I am not ready to reveal those just yet.

If you would like to join us please visit Nan, our hostess (thank you Nan)

My Daughter

You’ll never really know, my dear,
Just how much you mean to me,
A mother’s love, buried so deep,
That only my heart can see.

When I sit and really stare at you,
All I can do is grin,
Somewhere down deep inside,
I see myself within.

I’d never change a thing in you,
I thank God that your so fine,
Even when your at your worst,
I’m so proud that you are mine.

The roads we have traveled,
were not always that good,
I would take back all the pain you’ve felt,
Only if I could.

I know that I’m not perfect,
It’s the best that I can do,
But everyday, I thank the lord,
For a daughter as special as you.

Can you believe that I am actually getting around to doing a roundup again?  I have shared a couple of things I found while scouring the pages this week that I have bookmarked. Believe me there was more, but time ran out.

I am in love…… m

Can you say WUNDERBAR?  Melanie really outdid herself on this piece of furniture, but then again all her work/redo’s are great. Check this out at The Frosted Gardner, you don’t want to go though if you don’t have LOTS of time to look around.

Are you ready for another great transformation?  Check out what Leigh of Dirt Cheap Decor did here.  I’m in love with those doors as a headboard and the colors in this room are so tranquil, gotta love the little sparkly chandelier.

Thankful Thursday-August 19

emo_flowers1_thankfulThursday On Thursday’s I like to do several meme’s, Simple Pleasures at “ A Collection of This and That” and  “Thankful Thursday”. I posted my Simple Pleasure a bit earlier (see post below), so now I will focus on my Thankful Thursday.

You know there are many things to be thankful for each given day if only we look for them, and sometimes we don’t have look very far.  This week, I have been pondering God’s amazing love for us.  It is beyond jesus on the crossanything I can ever articulate or fathom.  But it leads me to the thing that I am grateful for today and that is the  gift of eternal life.  Thank you sweet  Jesus for loving me so much that you went to the cross to die for me and my sins.  It’s simply amazing to know that I am loved that much.

Jesus Paid My Debt

Jesus paid a debt I owed
A debt I could not pay
It was only by his merciful grace
that for me there was a way

I was born a sinner
inherited from Adam and Eve
The only way to have my debt paid was
to believe on Jesus and him receive

He came to pay for our sins
at such an awful cost
They put a crown of thorns on his head
and nailed him to the cross

When he was dying in agony
people watched him and did stare
Some said "He saved others
why don't He just come down from there"

But Jesus had to stay upon
the cruel cross you see
For he was hanging there
suffering for you and me

He had to stay on the cross
for our sins to pay
Then he cried "It is finished"
the debt paid in full that day

Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Simple Pleasure-August 19

simple pleasure Today I am participating in the Simple Pleasures Meme, feel free to join us at A Collection of This and That.

My simple pleasure is sheets on the clothesline.  Is there anything that smells better than clean sheets smelling like the fresh air.

CLOTHESLINE1 country living

“It's not hard to tell we was poor - when you saw the toilet paper dryin' on the clothesline.”

THE BASIC RULES FOR CLOTHESLINES:
Did you know that there were rules for the clothesline, well here they are for you just in case you missed them.
1. You had to wash the clothes line before hanging any clothes- walk the whole length of each line with a damp cloth around the lines.
2. You had to hang the clothes in a certain order, and always hang "whites" with "whites," and hang them first.
3. You never hung a shirt by the shoulders - always by the tail! What would the neighbors think?
4. Wash day on a Monday! . . . Never hang clothes on the weekend, or Sunday, OH MY for Heaven's sake, NO!
5. Hang the sheets and towels on the outside lines so you could hide your unmentionables" in the middle
6. It didn't matter if it was sub zero weather . . . Clothes would "freeze-dry."
7. Always gather the clothes pins and placed in the clothespin bag when taking down dry clothes! Pins left on the lines were "tacky!"
8. If you were efficient, which my Mother was, you would line the clothes up so that each item did not need two clothes pins, but shared one of the clothes pins with the next washed item.
9. Clothes off of the line before dinner time, neatly folded in the clothes basket, and ready to be ironed.
10. IRONED?!!! Well, that's a whole other subject!

A POEM

A clothesline was a news forecast
To neighbors passing by.
There were no secrets you could keep
When clothes were hung to dry.

It also was a friendly link
For neighbors always knew
If company had stopped on by
To spend a night or two.

For then you'd see the "fancy sheets"
And towels upon the line;
You'd see the "company table cloths"
With the intricate design.

The line announced a baby's birth
From folks who lived inside -
As brand new infant clothes were hung,
So carefully with pride!

The ages of the children
Could So readily be known
By watching how the sizes changed,
You'd know how much they'd grown!

It also told when illness struck,
As extra sheets were hung;
Then nightclothes, and a bathrobe, too,
Haphazardly were strung.

It also said, "Gone on vacation now"
When lines hung limp and bare.
It told, "We're back!" when full lines sagged
With not an inch to spare!

New folks in town were scorned upon
If wash was dingy and gray,
As neighbors carefully raised their brows,
And looked the other way . .

But clotheslines now are of the past,
For dryers make work much less.
Now what goes on inside a home
Is anybody's guess!

I really miss that way of life.
It was a friendly sign
When neighbors knew each other best
By what hung on the line!

There isn’t time

There isn’t time, there isn’t time
To do the things I want to do-
With all the mountains tops to climb
And all the woods to wander through

                                                                       Eleanor Farjeon

Let’s see, as my little quote says, there just isn’t time to do all that I wan to do today.  Actually one thing I wanted to do today was go and wander around a antique mall.  However, my tummy isn’t feeling all that great, so decided against it.  Maybe later today if I get to feeling better, if not, maybe tomorrow.

So I think today I will sit here and work on my new little project.  I am putting together a blogging binder.  You wonder what that is, huh?  Well if you have been reading my blog for any amount of time, you know I love organization, although I am not totally organized, better than most, but not as good as many.  When I sit down to blog, I can never seem to think of anything to write about. This is where my binder comes in.  I am constructing a binder to hold all those thoughts as well as little snippets of things I run across that are of interest to me that I would like to share with you.   I will be capturing in pictures my progress as I go so I can share it with you at a later time.

I also added a blog button(top right) you can take with you if you would like to. Or you can simply copy the code below.  I have also linked a tutorial of how you can do this on your own blog.  Just look in the navigation bar for blogging tutorials.  There is so pretty wonderful ladies that have shared their knowledge with us to make our blogs more fun and personal.

Well, sitting here talking about isn’t getting anything done.  Now, where is THAT  tape and scissors?  See ya later!

Google Reader- Do you use it?

Here it is the start of another week, and I am always amazed at how fast the weekend goes.  Although this one was a pretty productive one.  We took care of several little jobs that we had been putting off and it  felt so good to get them done.  For the most part, we stayed home and in this weekend.  The weather has changed a bit here, not as hot as it was, which is a very big welcome. However, since middle of last week our weather has been rather dreary.  Overcast and gloomy, which makes me think of fall.  And when I think about fall I get that “nesting” and “creating” bug.

image My house got a good clean, and I also got my computer files organized as well as my “Google reader”  I have between 500-600 blogs I follow and I needed to reorganize some them.  Do you use Google reader?  I love it.  I really do.  Now granted I don’t read every post that shows up in my reader, but I do spend some time looking through them and I star some items to go back to at a later time when I have more time.  Believe it or not, I spent a good deal of time browsing through new blogs and added them to my already packed reader.  You’ll notice on my left hand side bar I bundled some of my favorite blog topics and you can view my reads.

I have been using Google Reader for years, but apparently I haven’t been using it to it’s full potential.  I found some tips @  webworkdaily.com, makeuseof.com

I had to laugh last week when several women ask me how I find all the giveaways.  Well now you know my secret.  With as many blogs that I subscribe too, I am bound to find a few.

So, do you use Google Reader, and if you do, what little tip or trick can you share with us.

Well the sun if finally peeking out, so need to start my day. Hope you have a blessed Monday!

Friday's here

friday  One more week gone of this year, it’s hard to believe we are into the middle of August already.  Wow, I need this ride to stop so I can get off.

It’s been a very productive week for me, I have tackled some things on my “to do” list.  It has felt good to be productive and see some changes around here.  I spent most of Wednesday, rearranging and cleaning the main level of my home.  Feeling a bit more cozy now that I have added some color….RED!  Since putting the house on the market, it has been a bit drab for me.  I am use to all my junk treasures being out and lots of colors and texture.  However, that hasn’t been the case for awhile now and it has been getting to me.  It just didn’t feel like home.  Granted it still isn’t how I would love it, but it will do in a pinch.  Hubby is adamant about not putting any unneeded holes in the walls, etc. So I am having to live with  ugly bland here.  OK.  And for anyone that knows me, bland isn’t me.

Yesterday I tackled sorting out my craft area downstairs.  Imagine my surprise when  I realized just how much junk supplies I have.  As I was packing things away I kept asking myself, Am I really going to move this?  I may never finish that area.  But I made a good dent in it ….that is HTC Evountil my knees and legs and back started giving me fits.   Nothing a little Ibrophen couldn’t help.

Ya’ll I have to share my toy with you.  Last Saturday hubby ran me all over town to find my new  phone.  It’s a HTC EVO 4 G.  Honey, this thing will do everything except my dishes.  I feel like I have come into the times now.  My old last phone was nothing fancy and only did the bare necessities.  And that was fine with me, but over time I started caving in and wanted something that would/could keep me in touch.  I am LOVING this new phone.  I may never know how to use most of the functions on it, but with my kids help I might just learn how to use a few of them.

The weather here is still a bit overcast, we got some much needed rain yesterday.  It was wonderful.  This morning the skies are still overcast with some more rain in the forecast.  I hope we get some more.  I am enjoying this rainy days in the house.  Guess I am weird like that.  I feel like these days are a preface for fall.  Which I can’t wait for.  Every year I get so anxious for fall, and I think the older I get, the more I love it.  I LOVE everything about the season.  Although because I HATE the cold, I will miss the summer warmth.  Not the super hot days, but the warm, pleasant days of summer.

Anyway, I need to scoot, got quite a bit on my plate today.  So need to get at it.

Hope you have a very blessed weekend.

Homekeepers Journal-August 10

I decided to participate in a new meme called  “A HomeKeeper’s Journal” Please visit Sylvia at Christian HomeKeeper Network to read what others are struggling with this week.

This week’s Journal is about struggles and what we do when we find ourselves struggling.

homekeepers-journal1 I struggle in my kitchen with ….. lately it seems like everything.  How to plan and cook for just the two of us.  Since it is usually just me and the hubby, and sometimes it is only me, I struggle to find the right solution for our eating needs.  What do I cook and will it be just me, etc….

Struggles of any kind have a tendency to make me …… on edge.  Seems like when I struggle I lose sight of all the lessons I have learned in the past.

I struggle more when ……. I am not focused or organized.

When it comes to people, I struggle ….. with dishonesty and trust.  I think for me, this comes from being lied too by loved ones that you thought would never do anything to harm you.

When it comes to struggles, I believe the Lord wants me to know ….. that he is near.  He will never leave me, and he can get me through this.

Please join in the fun by linking up here.

Simple Pleasures

SimplePleasuresDayle over at  A Collection of This and That has a new meme called Simple Pleasures.  I really like the precept for this meme because it has us to stop and pause and think about the simple  pleasures of everyday life.  And isn’t that what it’s all about anyway, is the simple everyday type of things that we take for granted. This mem to me goes hand and hand with the Thankful Thursday meme I like to do.

Today my simple pleasure is simple really.

SUMMER R.A.I.N.

Something that we are in much need of, so therefore I am grateful for it as well.  You can see my Thankful Thursday post below.

Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back
and realize they were the big things.

Thankful Thursday

emo_flowers1_thankfulThursday Wow, I can’t believe it is already Thursday (and August at that) and time for another Thankful Thursday. I missed last week, with trying to get ready for our upcoming trip.

With so much to be grateful for I have chosen a few that are speaking to my heart this morning, I am so thankful for my home.  I love my home and being here. And God has graciously given me some time at home from a full time job, I am so grateful for that much needed break.  God has blessed me with a wonderful hubby who works hard at his day job, just to come home and work hard here.  With trying to sell our house, we are always tweaking something which keeps my hubby in a constant “to do mode”.  I am so thankful for him and his attitude.  No matter how he feels he never gives up or in.  I could learn alot from him.

I’m also thankful for the new carpet we had laid in our basement yesterday.  What a difference it makes.  I wish we had of done it earlier.  My hope is that it will someday make a nice play area for another set of children to grow up in.

I’m thankful for the wonderful time we had this past weekend visiting with relatives at my hubby’s family reunion.  It was a great time sharing memories and food.

Thankful for the bit of rain we got last night, and the promise of more today.

Thankful for good friendships. A wonderful friend is moving away today, but I am thankful that God brought us together for a short time.

Today we will be linking up at Laurie’s place, Women Taking a Stand.  Hop over and join us.

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.  Colossians 3:17

You have asked

Blog in typescript letters  how I did certain things on my blog.  Believe me, if it wasn’t for some wonderful tutorials out there in blog land I would have never done any of them.  But these ladies have some exceptional and easy tutorials for anyone to do. (Will be adding some more) So I have created a link in my navigation bar of a list of some of the goodies I used.  I hope you find them as helpful as I did.

One other thing I use in creating my blog is Window Live Writer.  LOVE IT!!

Here is a brief description of it livewriter-overview
Windows Live Writer is a desktop application that makes it easier to compose compelling blog  posts using Windows Live Spaces or your current blog service. It includes a WSYIWYG blog editor as well as tools for publishing photos, maps. An included SDK allows developers to extend the capabilities of Writer to publish additional content types. Windows Live Writer is a great client for Windows Live Spaces but also works with other weblogs including Blogger, LiveJournal, TypePad, or WordPress.

You can get it here.  Well worth the download especially if you have more than one blog you try to post too.  I have several and I find this the best way to keep everything together.

I also love fonts and all the little doodles like these. If you do to, then you have to jump over there and download them.  They are all FREE!   B

Hope you find some useful tips here.

24, he can’t be!

that’s right, my son is 24 today.  I can’t believe it.  Where did the time go?  Seems like only yesterday I was singing “You are my sunshine” to him, and he was asking me “Mommy settle me down” (rubbing his back before going to sleep).  Oh how I cherish those memories.   Q Happy Birthday Derek!!! d

K…let’s see what have I been up to since I last posted.  The two biggest things were I was out of town for a family reunion and still working on getting the basement prepped for carpeting, coming on Wednesday.

Hubby’s family had a reunion in Livonia Mi over the weekend, so we traveled about 8 hours to attend.  We had a wonderful time, visiting with his family and relatives he hadn’t seen in a few years.  On the way up we stopped in Amish country in Ohio.  We had a blast, the only problem is we didn’t have enough time to see much, so I’m sure another trip will be in the future. However we did hit a few antique shops while in the area. And Sunday on our trip home, we stopped at three more.  I will have to say we did pretty good on this trip.  We didn’t fill the truck up.  B   Although I did find some of the glassware that I have been searching for.  I  have been collecting some snack plates, some for any occassions and some with snowflakes for the winter months, and found both that I was looking for.  SCORE!

I think we have finally got all the floors prepped and the furniture moved out of the basement for the carpet layers tomorrow.  I’m so excited about getting this new carpet.  It is going to give the area a whole new feel and look.  Woohoo.  I’m not going to want to put anything back in the basement.  I share a few before pictures here if you missed them.  I will try to snap some new ones once we have things back in place.

well I really should scoot, just wanted to keep you up to date what is going on with me.  I need to get around to visit with you all.  Bare with me.
